Is your website up to scratch?

Small businesses need to spend more time on their online marketing, says new research

According to a study which surveyed 1,800 consumers, nearly 40% of potential customers have walked away from a business because of a bad website.  The survey, by internet provider 1and1.co.uk, found that one third of consumers felt small business website were ‘tired’ or ‘unimpressive’, and complained that many of them have typos and glaring errors.

It also found that 9% of consumers decided to spend less with a company because the website didn’t inspire confidence.

While it can seem an extra expense and resource to maintain a fresh, up to date website, it can be a vital tool in attracting new business, especially as websites are now often the first port of call for a consumer.

Even the simplest of changes can make all the difference. At the very least, make sure your website tells consumers about the kind of business and services you offer, provides clear contact information, and a brief background to the company ethos and approach. These are the kinds of changes that will allow someone new to your business to get a sense of how you operate and what you might be able to offer them.
