National Minimum Wage Rise

From 1st October 2011 the National Minimum Wage rates have changed.

There are different levels of NMW, depending on age and whether whether the employee is an apprentice. The current rates are:

  • £6.08 for workers aged 21 and over
  • £4.98 for workers aged 18-20
  • £3.68 for workers aged 16 and 17
  • £2.60 for apprentices in their first year or under 19 employed status.

Employees of compulsory school age are not entitled to the NMW. Some of their other employment rights are also different.
